CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base is the first large scaled base for movie and TV shooting and for tourism built in China. Constructed in 1987, it is the nation's first theme park incorporating movie and TV culture and tourism and is also one of the nation's first batch of 5A grade tourist scenic areas. With its unique functionality and charms it has been attracting nearly one hundred movie/TV production units every year to shoot over 1000 movies and TV plays here, while at the same time over 2 million person/time have come here each year as tourists and to explore the secrets of movie
production. Thanks to the incessant upgrading of the scene zones and excellent services the popularity has been rising every day and with that, number of production units and tourist coming is steadily rising. In this regard the Base is leading the entire circle of the nation, being the widely acknowledged earliest and most successful movie/TV base in China and is given the title of "Oriental Hollywood".
Since 1997 CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base has become a public listed company with two main functions, namely, movie/TV shooting and tourist attraction. Its chief component parts Town of Tang Dynasty, Town of Three Kingdoms and Town of Water Margin were completed in 1991, 1994 and 1996 respectively. Its grandiose scales, well adapted to movie/TV shooting as well as for tourists enjoying, the sites of settings where movie and TV are shooting and which offer inexhaustible sources of interest, plus the par excellence performances and especially charming landscape of Lake Taihu, together with the well equipped sites of settings and other facilities for filming have been attracting tens of thousands of tourists and numerous production units both home and abroad.
With movie and TV culture as the theme culture and the historic cultures to which the theme culture has extended, the Base has its distinct features and great depth. As the nationally known base for movie shooting the Base has received and accommodated the shooting of thousands of movies and TV plays since its founding, among them are “Stories of Three Kingdoms”, “Water Margin”, “Emperor Ming Huang of Tang Dynasty”, “Yang the Royal Concubine”, “Stories in the Da Ming Palace”, “ A Haughty Smile at the Land of Heroes”, “ The Big House” and its serial, “Die Renjie”, “The Six-finger Zither Demon”, “The Buzzard-shooting Hero” “The Phoenix’s Legend” “ Love Stories in Tang Dynasty” , “Granaries of the Empire”, “The God-like Doctor”. All the year round the scene zones have production units stationed and movie stars from H.K. Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Mainland China keep coming and going. Apart from seeing stars at work on the scenes, tourists can take part in the meetings between stars and their fans, organized by the Base on an irregular basis, at which tourists may come within touching distance to the stars. Tours of movie studio, taking pictures with stars, asking for autographs and all sorts of interacting with popular stars have become one of the chief attractions of the Base.




CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base occupies a total area of over 100 acres and water area of 3000 mu of Lake Taihu. In its scene zones are King of Wu Palace, Ganlu Temple, Han Tripod, Cao Cao’s Army Camp on Land and Waterside, all of which are in the Han Dynasty styles. Then there are the Royal Palace, Da Xian Guo Si Temple, Purple Stone (Zishi ) Street, Riverside Street On Qingming Day, camps and barracks of Water Margin etc , which show a distinct Song Dynasty Style. The Great Tang Dynasty style shows itself in the large scale ancient architecture group of the Royal Garden, Chenxian Pavilion, Hua Qing Pool, and the Tang Palaces. For Ming and Qing dynasties there are the “Old Beijing Si He Yuan (a rectangular shaped residence house with courtyard in the middle)” and the “Old Shanghai Street”. Walking down these scenes, you cannot but be deeply struck with the great wisdom of the nation over the past thousands of years.
CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base puts up over 20 eye-catching performances of cavalry combat, songs and dances, movie stunt etc. Among them are the exciting and majestic “Three Heroes Fighting Lv Bu”, and the “Ancient Melodies of Hua Xia” a show of ancient beauty put out by numerous fair young women. The performance of “Exploring the Movie Stunts”, stunt-playing stringed together that has become available lately is a even bigger eye-catcher. Then there are the “Yan Qing fighting on the Competing Platform”, the “Interlocking Stratagem”, “Overpowering Jiangmenshen in Drunken State” and “Hero Comes to the Rescue of the Beauty”, also very popular with tourists. Since this year the Base has thrown in more to the performance and their adjustments. Costumes, settings and audio equipment for all main performance items are updated to create much more striking audio and video impact. No wonder one of tourists confided, “ Just one show of Three Heroes Fighting Lv Bu is worth what the Three Kingdom admittance costs”.
CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base has beautiful natural landscape with green mountains and clear waters around. The Junzhan Hill at the foot of which the Base is nestled and Lake Taihu that is right by its side give the Base a combined beauty of both the hill and the lake. The article of “Memories of Lake Taihu” of Qing Dynasty writes, “Of all the uniqueness and beauty of South Yangtze landscape, Lake Taihu is the top.” The Lake has a great expanse of water, clean and clear, presenting a landscape both graceful and majestic. Waterfowls skittering by, casting a rippling in the gentle waves, gives one a sight of delicate beauty. The saying: “The Lake’s beauty stems out of its water” is so true. Just imagine what a tourist will perceive when he/she splashes water at the lake side, or looks afar into the distance over the Lake, or climbs high up and then enjoys a bird’s eye view or slowly rows along in the Lake to find himself right at the horizon where sky meets the waters and inhales the sweet essence of the Lake.
